Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Profile

Comhaltas is so many different things to so many different people and it can be hard to keep track of the
true scope of our activities.
-
The Comhaltas branch network organise over 1,000 classes every week to teach Irish music, singing, dance and language classes.
-
For musicians who like to play socially, Comhaltas organises many sessions the length and breadth of the country and in fact world-wide.
-
Audiences around the world have seen Comhaltas "touring groups" bringing Irish music, song, dance and storytelling on annual tours.
-
Comhaltas runs the definitive system of competitions for Irish music, called the "Fleadh Cheoil" (literally "feast of music"). Musicians compete in a series of qualifying rounds in each county, with qualifiers progressing to the Provincial Fleadh Cheoil, with qualifiers there, going forward to the annual All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
-
Comhaltas has collected an "archive" of thousands of hours of Irish music recordings, a large print library and a growing collection of videos.
-
In an effort to promote the music of Ireland, Comhaltas publishes recordings, books and tutorials of Irish traditional music.
-
Comhaltas headquarters is in Monkstown Co. Dublin, Ireland. Comhaltas also reaches into local communities around Ireland with our Regional Centres.
As the former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, said,

"Take Comhaltas out of the equation, turn back the clock and contemplate Ireland without Comhaltas and the sheer scale of what we owe you is revealed."
